Strength For the Goal

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” -2 Chronicles 5:17 (NIV)

I have once heard that the mark of a great writer is that he writes even though he does not feel like it. Indeed the path of a writer, or with any career for that matter, often has its struggles and challenges. To spend long hours at work researching, thinking, and writing can often be strenuous and taxing. I’ve heard of some authors who need to do a day’s worth of research just to write a few sentences! But when it feels as if the fountains of research have run dry and capturing the essence of what we want to say on paper has become a monumental task, it is tempting to give up. However, continued perseverance and hard work pays off, and there is a feeling of triumph within the author when he has finished his book and it is published.

In the same manner we might be weary of the work which God has called us to do. Through we initially received this mission with much conviction and fervour, we have grown discouraged over time as hardship and difficulty has come along our way. When we do not see results and nothing seems to be going right, we question God and ask Him why He has brought us to this task. But God has a plan in store for each of us and He is constantly working towards the fulfilment of His perfect will. When we have allowed Christ to enter our hearts and guide our steps, He will strengthen us by His Spirit to carry out the task that He has placed within our hearts. By taking that step to move forward in Him, He will carry us through in His strength so that by His enabling we will work hard towards the goal to which He has called us; persevering with our reward being the privilege of seeing God’s faithfulness and love being revealed before our eyes.
